Book early in peak season
May to September and month-end dates fill up fast. Book 2–4 weeks ahead for local moves, earlier for summer.

Mid-week and mid-month dates are usually easier to book than Fridays and month-end.

Declutter first
Less to move means less time on the clock. Sell, donate or recycle what you no longer use.
Buildings & parking

Book the elevator
Most condos require an elevator booking and a deposit. Book it at both buildings.

Check strata move rules
Some buildings only allow moves on certain days or hours. Ask your building manager early.

Plan truck parking
Many Vancouver streets have time limits or resident-only zones. Save a spot close to the entrance if you can.
Packing

Pack room by room
Label every box with the room and contents, on more than one side.

Make a first-night box
Sheets, chargers, toiletries, basic tools and a kettle — keep it with you.

Keep valuables with you
Carry jewellery, documents and irreplaceable items yourself. Photograph valuables before packing.

From October to May, plan for wet weather. We wrap furniture, but keep boxes off wet ground.

Avoid rush hour
Bridges and tunnels slow down at peak times. An early start often saves time.

Do a final walkthrough
Check every room, closet and cupboard, and photograph the empty home for your deposit.

Canada Post, banks, CRA, ICBC, utilities and subscriptions — start 2–3 weeks before moving.

Label boxes like a pro
Use colour codes or numbers per room and label on several sides so every box is easy to identify.

Know your neighbourhood
Downtown has tight parking, Kitsilano has narrow streets, North Vancouver means bridge crossings, and newer Richmond buildings often have strict move rules.

Find free moving supplies
Local businesses often give away sturdy boxes, and gently used supplies are easy to find online. Start collecting 4–6 weeks ahead.
